Happy new year from captain Ryan Taylor. Anna Maria island fishing charter in January.
On most days it starts out cool in the mornings so bring a jacket. With all the cool weather water temperatures drops so we will be using live shrimp for bait; bought from a local bait shop. The targeted species on an Anna Maria island fishing charter with captain Ryan Taylor this month will be sheepshead, redfish, trout, and snapper. When we target sheepshead we are fishing rock piles in Tampa bay and off the beaches of Anna Maria island, or docks near the passes. Sheepshead fishing is the best in the colder months and they are excellent to eat. Most sheepshead range from 2 to 5lbs. Redfish are caught around the docks near the passes mixed in with the sheepshead and black drum. I also catch a lot in the manatee river in these colder months using live shrimp and a split shot. Most of the redfish being caught now are smaller 15 to 22″ but we do occasionally get a surprise of a big one 30″ plus.
Catching trout on a Anna Maria island fishing charter in January. On most days we do the best fishing on artificial bait jigs/Lewers. I fish the grass flats some days really shallow 1 to 2 feet on other days 5 to 8 feet. The big ones like the shallow water at this time of year.
Snapper are also being caught and we are fishing around the rock piles in Tampa Bay. They are just mixed in which is kind of fun. Other bi-catch lately has been permit, grouper, and flounder. This winter time fishing doesn’t last long for us it will be spring before we know it. If you’re around Tampa Bay area Anna Maria Island, Bradenton, Sarasota, longboat key, and are looking to go fishing or just get out on the water give me a call.
